the Cairo song

If there were a Cairo song, it would consist of donkey sounds and honking. Because first, there is a place that houses a bunch of donkeys right in the middle of our 15-floor-buildings-neighbourhood, so every 15 minutes the donkeys let us know how they are feeling.

As for the honking.. well, this is Cairo. If you think they will let you cross the street and slow down, you couldn't be more wrong. They will speed up, and in the dark half of them don't bother turning their lights on.

Also, if you come here, take some medication for fever, sickness and stomach pains with you. My and a friends example has shown that even if the tasty juice or the ice cream makes you feel happy for a moment, it can always ruin the next day for you as it is quite possible it will make you spend this day with the toilet seat in your face.

Also, there are three levels of temperature in Cairo: hot, very hot and MOTHERF#@!ING FRIGGIN' HOT. Of course going out sightseeing requires to brave the most latter, since taking pictures in a decent lights means going out when the sun is in the middle of the sky. Should it have started sinking into the Nile, slow not down, since the sunset is over just too fast around here.
I am quite happy with the 38 degrees though, since in Marburg I would have to settle for 9 and in Tartu for 7 degrees. It's healthier to sweat than to shiver.
However, it would be nicer to get to follow a normal (well, for me) dress code since here it is advised for a woman to cover her hands and feet all the way. Good against too much tanning, otherwise quite a torture.

Anyway, this much for the ranting part, thank you very much for your attention, ladies and gentlemen. Yours truly shall now go and visit the Egyptian museum and report on the pleasantries of my stay in Cairo once I am back in Germany, on Sunday.

Seeya!

al-Qāhira

zzzz..... WORKWORKWRITEWORK!!!! ......zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh man, am I glad to get out of this country in a day and some. My third paper shall be finished today, no matter the amount of sleep I have to sacrifice - deadline is 12:00 tomorrow and I'll probably deliver it at 11:55 but that's okay. I feel fairly confident in myself.

Now, the only language in the world in which I have no ambition whatsoever of becoming fluent in is smalltalk. I've tried it these last few days, in the kitchen, wich my lovely floormates, and alright, I can talk about the perks of certain foods and the downside of waking up earlier than one wishes, but only in a situation where I spent the rest of my day holed up in my room achieving academical goals and therefore don't have much intelligence left to spread to my surroundings in form of brilliant sarcastic remarks. Therefore, it works for me right now. But as of tomorrow I am done, done with the smalltalk portion for this month and this year. Half of the people on my floor are moving out so unless someone extraordinaly interesting comes along, all the newbies shall be indifferently ignored.

In other news, did you know that meteorologists are saying this winter will be one of the coldest in the last millennium, and oceanologists say it will be a soft climate for the rest of the year? I will officially land in Tallinn on the 25th of December (I had to book early this time because almost all the tickets for christmas are gone already) and I am very curious as to how intensely I will shiver when taking my first steps in Tallinn.

So sun and snow lie ahead.
I'll soak up the sun first.

Enjoy your first month of school, estonian people! bwha ha ha.

Samas on meeldiv kuulda, kuidas välismaalased üritavad eesti keelt rääkida. :)

Muidugi ilmselgelt mõtisklen ma sellistel teemadel, sest piinab Tartu-igatsus ja nende inimeste igatsus, keda sellest linnast leida võib....

Aga mis teid Tartu juures häirib? Kui üldse miskit - tartlased ju armastavad Tartut. Nagu minagi. :)

Eestlased!

"Homoliikumise taustal toimub moraalirevolutsioon"

Ja olen lõpuks leinud ainsa väite, mis Freudi mulle sümpaatseks teeb, nimelt uskus hr. Ajusurkija, et kõik inimesed on loomupäraselt biseksuaalsed.
Ma ju räägin! :-]

KYAAAAAAH

ahhhhh, the one thing that always motivates me to the level of true academic enthusiasm: ordering over 10 books from the library.

Tomorrow shall be a day of productive uber-greatness!

And hopefully I will get to this point at the latest on the 14.9.:

So far - looking good!

(:

The forest is my place of breath. It is great to have a mountain to jog on right next to your house. I have even shed my night owl robe for a while to enjoy the earlier mornings of silence running and walking in the forest.

There are pigeons NESTING in front of my window. If Amer told me now to follow the signs, I would start running and screaming. But no, it's just an entertaining sight.

If all goes well, then life will be the sweetest peach soon. So, fingers crossed.

And yeah, I'm so happy with my life I even smile on pictures now. Freakyyyy!

Miss you.
